Art 2000
Back

For Art 2000 five visual artists created new, site-specific works for four major churches across the south of England. The projects were led by curators appointed by Art 2000 (as Art and Sacred Places was then known): they, in collaboration with the churches, chose the artists. This was important as it reflected Art 2000’s desire to build a new partnership between the church and artists and, in doing so, to match the best contemporary standards and practice for art events.

Each of the artists was commissioned to produce a new work arising from their response to those churches and the communities that worship in them and visit them. The resulting pieces were exhibited in the churches between October 2000 and January 2001.
